Encouragement
Encouragement strategies are about having fun; they generate excitement and interest in walking and bicycling. Special events, mileage clubs, contests and ongoing activities all provide ways for parents and children to discover, or rediscover, that walking and bicycling are doable and a lot of fun.
Whether it's organizing the neighborhood kids and parents for a walking school bus or bicycle train, starting a school wide mileage club and contest, or participating in International Walk to School Day, Safe Routes to School (SRTS) has many proven strategies to encourage our kids to walk and bike safely.
For more information on events and activities, please visit the Encouragement Section of the National SRTS website.
